PARTICIPANT PROFILE: Miss Tait, Frederick Nattrass Primary Academy

  • January 22, 2021

A former student of a Northern Education Trust school is now building a successful career as an apprentice in a Trust academy.

Abbi Tait , who attended The Grangefield Academy in Stockton-on-Tees, was recruited through GP Strategies and Northern Education Trust’s partnership back in 2018. She started employment as an Apprentice Administrator in April and began her Intermediate Apprenticeship in Business Administration straight away.

Abbi regularly produced high quality work and completed her Intermediate Apprenticeship in a timely manner in May 2019. She was very keen to advance in her career and wanted to progress to the next level of apprenticeship as soon as possible, so started her Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship in June 2019.

Apprenticeships combine practical on the job experience with real-world work, so Abbi was able to be in work every day while completing her training programme. She is supported by a GP Strategies Skills Coach who visits her on site to ensure minimum disruption to the school.

“My apprenticeship has given me an amazing platform to start a career in Business Administration. I have really valued the support I receive. My Skills Coach is always an email or phone call away. She responds quickly and is very good at answering any questions and providing reassurance.” Abbi Tait

Fully funded and tailored training

Frederick Nattrass Primary Academy is part of Northern Education Trust and as such, Abbi’s training has been fully funded through the Trust’s Apprenticeship Levy. In addition to the funding, the major advantage of an apprenticeship is that it can be tailored to both individual and organisational needs. Therefore, they can train and develop new and existing staff in line with the ethos of the Multi Academy Trust.

An advocate of apprenticeships

Northern Education Trust is an advocate of apprenticeships and to date have recruited 14 apprentices in roles such as administration, teaching assistant and early years. The Trust currently has over 25 apprentices in learning through a combination of new recruits and existing staff undergoing training for professional development.

The benefits of apprenticeships are realised across the Trust, and for Frederick Nattrass in particular, Abbi has proved to be a valuable asset.
