PARTICIPANT PROFILE: Lyn Houghton (NET The Blyth Academy)
When I was asked to start teaching KS3 Geography in the 2019-2020 Academic year, I will admit to being very nervous about delivering out of my specialism to students. As a teacher, you always want to do the best for your students and this was going to be no exception.
From day one, Ashley and the team have been a fantastic support. Ashley came and met with me personally in the summer term before I began teaching to make sure I had access to everything and understood the topics that were being delivered. Throughout the year there were videos and sessions that I was invited to join from colleagues around the trust.
The creation of the Google classroom this year has been a great addition to the support that I get. The videos going through the marking of step papers and showing me how the judgements are made has been pivotal in my understanding of extended writing in the subject. The topic videos that colleagues put on the classroom too, again support in making sure that key concepts that I am being asked to deliver in topics are clear, and they are always available for me to access should I need a recap.
I genuinely love delivering Geography to the students and thank the team for their continued support in person or online.
